Strengthening COVID-19 Response is a project initiated by UNDP in Kenya

Nairobi, 28 July 2022 (TDI): The United Nations Development Program in Kenya has initiated a Project namely “Strengthening COVID-19 Response for Kenya: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery”.

UNDP in Kenya:

UNDP in Kenya works closely with the government to promote security, empowerment, and sustainability in the state.

It has operated many projects in Kenya to increase the state’s efficiency in many fields. Some of its most prioritized areas to work on in the state are poverty reduction, Democratic Governance, Peace Building, Conflict Resolution, Energy and Environment, and Disaster Risk Reduction.

Aim of the Project:

“Strengthening COVID-19 Response for Kenya: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery” project in Kenya aims to build the capacity of the health sector. It is so that they can respond effectively to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

The purpose of the project is to strengthen capacity and enhance the coordination of the health system of Kenya. It also addresses the socio-economic impact of COVId-19 through enterprise recovery and aims to foster innovation through digitization to address development challenges in Kenya.

Moreover, the project focuses on three Kenyan counties namely Kisumu, Busia, and Migori. Both Minister of Health of Kenya and UNDP are working closely to effectively implement the project. The budget for the project totals 1 Million Dollars.

Furthermore, the implementation of this project will contribute to Kenya’s progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Aid through the Project:

The medical institutions of the three focus areas received medical supplies consisting of 89,500 items through the project. Additionally, more than 200 young women have been given the opportunity to undergo computer literacy courses for 6 months.

Besides this, Robotics and medical waste microwaves were also distributed in the health departments.

Russia’s help:

During the opening of the UNDP’s project, Russia was represented by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the International Organizations, Vladimir Lenev.

The Russian Federation is one of the donors of the Project in Kenya. It has helped in building a new and modern kitchen facility in the hospital of Kisumu.

Consequently, the Kisumu hospital also presented a deep appreciation for Russia’s contribution. With the help of these donations, Kenya is strengthening its health care department.
