Starmer Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia in Call with Crown Prince

Riyadh (TDI): British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has reiterated the United Kingdom’s support for Saudi Arabia during a call with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as regional instability continues to intensify following the outbreak of conflict involving Iran.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the leaders discussed the rapidly evolving security situation in the Middle East, which has deteriorated since the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28.

The escalation has triggered a series of retaliatory attacks by Tehran targeting Gulf nations, as well as US and Israeli assets across the region.

During the call, Starmer strongly condemned Iran’s actions, describing the attacks, including those on critical infrastructure,  as “appalling.”

He emphasized London’s continued commitment to supporting the Kingdom in maintaining regional stability and safeguarding its security interests.

Saudi Arabia has emerged as a focal point in the broader geopolitical crisis, facing repeated aerial threats and security challenges linked to the ongoing conflict.

The Kingdom has also seen an outpouring of international solidarity, with several global leaders voicing support in recent days.

French President Emmanuel Macron similarly expressed his country’s backing during a separate call with the Saudi crown prince, condemning what he described as repeated Iranian attacks on the Kingdom.

The intensifying conflict has had far-reaching consequences beyond immediate security concerns. Energy markets have been significantly affected, with prices rising sharply amid fears of prolonged instability in the Gulf; a region critical to global oil supplies.

Diplomatic efforts are continuing as world leaders seek to contain the crisis and prevent further escalation. Saudi Arabia, a key regional power, remains central to these efforts, engaging with international partners to navigate the volatile situation.

The call between Starmer and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman underscores the importance of international alliances at a time of heightened tensions.

As the conflict shows little sign of abating, global coordination and diplomatic engagement are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the region’s trajectory in the coming weeks.
