Sri Lankan Foreign Minister meets Brazilian Ambassador

Colombo, 1 October 2021 (TDI): Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Gamini Lakshman Peiris held a meeting with the Ambassador of Brazil to Sri Lanka, Sergio Luiz Canaes enhancing market access.

Foreign Minister Peiris warmly welcomed the Ambassador. He expressed Sri Lanka’s strong resolve to build closer ties with Brazil in a variety of areas of mutual interest. Both sides agreed at the meeting to work together to find common ground on several significant global problems of mutual concern. That included climate change, renewable energy, multilateral institution reform, and South-South cooperation.

In light of Sri Lanka’s long-standing Non-Aligned history, the Foreign Minister expressed his desire to strengthen connections with Brazil. Minister Peiris described the market opportunities accessible in Brazil for original Sri Lankan products such as tea, spices, and gemstones. Ambassador Canaes was also invited to actively promote Sri Lanka as a tourism destination among Brazilians.
