Sri Lankan Foreign Minister gets farewell visit from Egyptian Ambassador

Colombo, 6 October 2021 (TDI): The departing Ambassador of Egypt, Hussein Abdelhamid Al Sahara met Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Gamini Lakshman Peiris before the departure.

The Minister keenly appreciated the Government of Egypt and the Ambassador for the role Egypt played in the Non-Aligned Movement. The Foreign Minister also stressed improving collaboration in the field of tourism and trade and mentioned the popularity of Ceylon tea among Egyptian tea lovers. He further added that the import of Ceylon tea to Egypt has improved and ensured better bilateral trade in other areas of common interest too.

The Foreign Minister applauded the Government of Egypt for earnestly commending Sri Lanka for the promotion and protection of Human Rights in the country, during the General Assembly debate. Ambassador Abdelhamid emphasized working together in the spheres of combating terrorism and extremism to protect the national interests of both countries.
