Washington DC, 3 December 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry met the United States (US) Secretary of State, Antony Blinken in his office in Washington DC.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed several issues that needed to be given critical attention. These issues included, bilateral relations between both countries, the ability to fight global challenges, and many others.
The US Secretary of State in his statement said, “I met with Sri Lanka Foreign Minister, Ali Sabry to discuss our joint efforts to combat local and global challenges.”
It is pertinent to note that both countries have enjoyed 75 years of ties and have continued to stay stronger together.
Also, he added that” We thank Sri Lankans for their partnership and commitment to advancing shared democratic principles.” The conversation promoted stronger relations between both countries as they seek to further their engagements.
They also discuss a wide range of subjects of mutual interest and focus on further elevating Sri Lanka-US relations. The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka emphasized that the Sri Lankan people have enjoyed good relations with the US government.
They both also talked about the need to increase their support base in these times of global challenges. The US government has been a great support to Sri Lanka.

Moreover, he met with other stakeholders on the need for partnership. Meeting with Bill Hagerty, US Senator, the discussion concentrated on the way forward to working closely together to find new ways to deepen US-Sri Lanka relations.
Also, he met with the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power where he laid his request for technical support for Sri Lanka’s sustainable development.
At the meeting, he added that the need for future cooperation and addressing current socioeconomic challenges is paramount to him and the people of Sri Lanka.
