Dubai, 2 September 2022 (TDI): The Sri Lankan cricket team beat Bangladesh in a nail-biting match in Asia Cup 2022 on September 1. This was a do-or-die match for both teams.

The Sri Lankan cricket team made their 2nd highest successful run chase. Moreover, this was also the highest successful run chase by any team in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Before yesterday’s match, both teams faced each other 12 times. Sri Lanka won 8 times and Bangladesh was victorious on 4 occasions.
The match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on September 1 was the 5th match of Asia Cup 2022. This was a group B match.

Sri Lankan team included Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Asitha Fernando and Dilshan Madhushanka.
Bangladeshi team consisted of Sabbir Rehman, Mehidy Hassan, Shakib Al Hasan, Afif Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, Ebadot Hussain, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bangladesh batted first and put a target of 184 for Sri Lanka. Mehidy Hassan scored 38 and Afif Hussain scored 39 runs for Bangladesh.
In response, the Sri Lankan opening pair was good and one of them, Kusal Mendis made a quickfire 60 on 37 balls. The match went till the last over and then Sri Lanka won by 2 wickets on the 2nd ball of the last over.
This was a do-or-die match in the Asia Cup for both teams. Bangladesh has been knocked out of the tournament and Sri Lanka moves to Super Four.
Apart from Sri Lanka, two more teams have qualified for the Super Four in Asia Cup; India and Afghanistan. The last team in the Super Four will be Pakistan or Hong Kong depending on today’s match. The winner of today’s match will qualify for the Super Four.
