Southern EU countries pledged on Climate Change crisis

Athens, 19 September 2021 (TDI): Southern EU countries’ summit agreed to focus on the need to tackle climate change.

Greece’s wildfires make an impact on climate change. Now the countries are leading an effort to resilience in the region. To focus on biodiversity, the marine environment, climate change, and forest management, Countries Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Slovenia, Malta, Portugal, and Croatia adopted a declaration. 

To address the meeting, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the Climate crisis is not only a distant threat. We need to handle it as it has become a catastrophe.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the declaration is the right move to tackle the climate crisis. 

EU Council President Charles Michel addressed that first, we need to make Europe a Climate-Neutral continent. 

The leaders expressed their committment to tackling more problems like natural habitats.
