South Korean Foreign Minister to attend ASEAN-led virtual meetings

Seoul: 31 July 2021 (TDI): 

Chung Eui-Yong, South Korean Foreign Minister and diplomat, plans to join virtual sessions led by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with the major regional powers along with other 26 countries next week. The series of gatherings will be held from Tuesday through Friday.

The agenda for Tuesday will gather South Korea-ASEAN meeting and the ASEAN Plus Three talks. Wednesday will involve major regional powers, including the United States, China, Japan, and Russia in the East Asia Summit (EAS) session. For Friday will involve North Korea and 26 other countries in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

According to a Ministry Report, the aim for these sessions is to strengthen the foundation of Seoul’s New Southern Policy to deepen the relationship with ASEAN, enhance cooperation against the pandemic, and call for participants’ support for Seoul’s drive to foster a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
