Somali President received Deputy SG UN in Somalia

Mogadishu, 13 September 2021 (TDI): Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo met with Amina Jane Mohamed, UN Deputy Secretary-General along with UN Delegation, including UN Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, on Sunday in Mogadishu.

Both sides discussed topics related to the implementation of the sustainable development goals, the strengthening and promotion of the partnership between the United Nations and Somalia, and the successful completion of the upcoming elections of Somalia in a peaceful and comprehensive manner.

The UN Deputy Secretary-General praised the Somali government and people for their various efforts and progress for the development of the country, such as developments and economic growth, re-establishment of the army, maintaining security, fighting and preventing corruption, tackling the epidemic of COVID-19, and debt relief processing.
On his part, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo thanked the UN Officers for their concern about Somalia and its people. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo also expressed the Somali Government’s commitment to advancing the cause of its people, such as the political liberation of women, the promotion of human rights, and the implementation of the principles of good governance.
