Singaporean President sets to visit United Kingdom

Singapore, 3 May 2023 (TDI): On the UK government’s invitation, President Halimah Yacob will travel to London, United Kingdom (UK), from May 4 to May 7.

This visit aims to attend  King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the monarch’s coronation, Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee, and representatives from the President’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will join her.

President Halimah will meet separately with Presidents Vo Van Thuong of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Ratu Wiliame Katonivere of the Republic of Fiji in London.

Additionally, Halimah will be present at a reception for overseas Singaporeans residing in the UK.

President Halima’s office will be in charge during her absence, thanking Eddie Teo, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers.

This visit is crucial to enhancing diplomatic relations and strengthening ties between the two nations.

The visit will focus on critical issues, including trade and investment, security cooperation, climate change, and strengthening cultural and educational ties between the two countries.
The discussions will lead to plans for enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Singapore and the UK as the two nations strive to build closer and mutually beneficial ties.
Furthermore, the visit will showcase Singapore’s technological advancements in various sectors.
Singapore is known worldwide for its technological innovation, making it an attractive destination for UK investors, entrepreneurs, and businesses interested in collaborating with Singaporean firms and benefitting from Singapore’s vibrant marketplace.
President Halimah Yacob’s visit to London is expected to be an essential step towards deepening bilateral ties between Singapore and the UK, fostering greater collaboration in multiple areas and enabling the UK to continue strengthening relationships with key economic partners across the Asian region.
At the ceremony for the coronation at Westminster Abbey, more than 2,200 people are expected, including leaders of state, foreign ministers, royals, and religious figures.
