Istana, 10 December 2021 (TDI): Singapore Premier Lee Hsien Loong writes a valedictory letter to outgoing Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday.

The letter contains best wishes from the government and the people of Singapore over the completion of her tenure.

German Chancellor had left her office on Tuesday after completion of a 16-year distinguished tenure. She was elected as German Chancellor in 2005.

Singapore’s President noted Angela’s success in a letter that laid a strong base that will stand Germany in good stead for many years. Miss Merkel steered Germany, and Europe, through many ups and downs, he kept saying in the note. Moreover, Angela Merkel had earned the respect of her peers in Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world.

Remembering his recent meeting with Ex Chancellor the President told that their exchanges at different forums were always constructive and substantial. He also paid gratitude over her strong support for the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.

Minister Lee also considered Germany as a key economic partner many more German companies are investing in Singapore, including BioNTech. He said that today where Germany’s international stature as a reliable and responsible power stands, all due to her keen efforts.

Angela Merkel was a role model for many young ones for her exemplary leadership and service all over the world. Singaporean Head concluded with wishing best health to the retired German Chancellor accordingly.

Letter to Chancellor Scholz

Minister Lee Hsein also wrote a letter to newly elected German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In the note, he congratulated the new Chancellor on account of his appointment as a Head of the office.

While in the letter, President hinted keenness in enhancing cooperation in multiple sectors of mutual interest.
