Islamabad, 14 February 2023 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif met with the Ambassador of Turkiye to Pakistan, Mehmet Paçaci during his visit to the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the Turkish Ambassador and prayed for the earthquake victims. Shehbaz Sharif assured Mehmet that the Government and the people of Pakistan stood by the people of Turkiye in this tough time.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister; Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Finance Minister; Ishaq Dar & Minister for Economic Affairs; Ayaz Sadiq.

Additionally, Minister for Law; Azam Nazeer Tarrar and Special Assistants to the Prime Minister (SAPM); Attaullah Tarrar and Tariq Fatemi were also present.

Remarks by representatives

While talking with Ambassador Mehmet, Shehbaz Sharif said, “Pakistan has deep condolences over the loss of life and property in the tragic earthquake in Turkiye. We are sending winter tents, blankets, and warm clothes to our brothers in Turkiye.”

Sharif informed that Pakistan has sent aid via air, sea, and road to the country. The government is also considering sending relief items via trains.

He reiterated that the relief was being provided based on daily reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkiye.

While recalling the help from Turkiye towards Pakistan in the past, Sharif noted, “The Government of Turkiye has fully helped Pakistan during the earthquake of 2005, floods in 2010, and the recent floods.”

Prime Minister asked the Turkish Envoy to brief him on the needs of the Turkish people so that Pakistan could make the appropriate arrangements for aid.

He reaffirmed that until the last victim of the disaster had been helped, Pakistan will keep up its rescue and relief efforts for its Turkish brothers and sisters. He also recorded his remarks in the condolence book.

While on his part the Ambassador of Turkiye thanked the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan. He said that they were touched by the outpouring of sympathy and support from the entire Pakistani nation.
