PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Praise for Trump’s Gaza Peace Role

Sharm el-Sheikh (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s intention to continue acknowledging US President Donald Trump’s “distinct role” in helping bring peace to Gaza.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, a day after the signing of the Gaza ceasefire declaration in Sharm el-Sheikh, the prime minister said Pakistan “deeply values President Trump’s promise, and his success, in halting the bloodshed in Gaza.”

The landmark agreement, brokered with the participation of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye, followed a prisoner and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas. Prime Minister Shehbaz attended the summit alongside several world leaders.

Sharing his reflections on X while returning from the summit, Shehbaz described the event as “potentially transformational,” saying Pakistan’s foremost concern remained the “immediate end of the genocidal campaign against Gaza.”

He emphasized that Pakistan’s appreciation for Trump stemmed from the US leader’s concrete actions. “Our gratitude to President Trump is grounded in his commitment to stop the war, and his ability to deliver on that promise.”

PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s consistent stance on the Palestinian issue, stressing that the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, remains central to the country’s Middle East policy.

During the signing ceremony, Trump thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz and Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, among others, for their contribution to the peace process.

In his address at the event, PM Shehbaz lauded both Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for their “tireless efforts” to achieve the ceasefire. Calling the day “a historic milestone,” he praised Trump as “a genuine man of peace” whose determination had made the breakthrough possible.
