PM Shehbaz Hails Saudi Support, Discusses US–Iran Peace Efforts with MBS

Jeddah (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic stability during a meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, according to the PM office.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting, which lasted nearly two hours and focused on regional developments and bilateral relations.

According to the PMO, the two leaders held detailed and cordial discussions on the evolving regional situation as well as cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed full solidarity with the Kingdom in the wake of recent regional escalation, stating that “the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with our Saudi brethren.” He also conveyed condolences over the loss of lives in the ongoing crisis.

He praised Saudi Arabia’s “exemplary patience and restraint” during the current tensions, adding that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s leadership had been a source of strength for peace efforts in the region.

The prime minister also briefed the Saudi leadership on Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives, including efforts that contributed to the US–Iran ceasefire and the recent round of talks between Washington and Tehran held in Islamabad.

He noted that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a “unique relationship as strategic defense partners” under the Pakistan–Saudi Arabia Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement, adding that Islamabad deeply values Riyadh’s continued economic support.

Both leaders also exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and maintaining close coordination on regional peace and stability.

Earlier, the prime minister arrived in Jeddah on an official visit accompanied by a high-level delegation. He was received at the airport by Prince Saud bin Mashaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the Makkah Region, along with Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliki and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Farooq.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and the Prime Minister’s spokesperson for foreign media Mosharraf Zaidi are also accompanying the delegation.
