Shaza Fatima Defends Internet Shutdown Ahead of PTI Protest

ISLAMABAD, (TDI): State Minister for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima, on Thursday defended the government’s decision to shut down internet services ahead of the PTI’s planned protest in Islamabad on November 24.

Her statement followed an announcement by the Ministry of Interior that mobile and internet services would be partially suspended in various regions of the country in anticipation of the protest.

In her remarks, Fatima emphasized that ensuring law and order and maintaining national security are among the government’s top priorities.

She also addressed ongoing efforts to minimise internet disruptions, highlighting the government’s commitment to providing the public with reliable and fast internet access around the clock.

Fatima further revealed that four new undersea cables are being laid, with data transit to start from China, which she said would significantly enhance Pakistan’s internet infrastructure.

Additionally, she pointed out that countries with strong export markets typically enjoy better internet connectivity.
