Belgrade, 22 August 2022 (TDI): The Republic of Serbia and Azerbaijan marked the 23rd anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations on Sunday. Both states established formal diplomatic relations on the 21st of August 1997.

Both the states congratulated each other on the occasion. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan also sent its great regards to its counterpart.

High-Level State Visits
The two sides have exchanged high-level state visits to each other from time to time. 2010 and 2011, were very significant years for the Serbian-Azerbaijani partnership.
During these years, the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan in Belgrade and Serbia in Baku were raised to the level of embassies, confirming interest in effective and dynamic mutual cooperation.
In May 2010, the first official visit of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Boris Tadic, to the Republic of Azerbaijan took place.
The visit emphasized the importance of intensive dialogue on the highest level, and the establishment of special relations between the heads of two states.
Ever since, 44 documents were signed with Serbia in various fields during the official visits between the countries.

Serbia, Azerbaijan Diplomatic Relations
The Republic of Serbia and Azerbaijan enjoy good ties. The countries have a strategic partnership. During the official visit of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic to Azerbaijan on May 21-22, 2018, the “Joint Action Plan on Strategic Partnership” between Azerbaijan and Serbia was signed.
In addition to that, Serbia, which is fully dependent on Russian gas supplies, plans to purchase gas from Azerbaijan in 2023 when it expects an interconnector to Bulgaria’s pipeline to be completed.
Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Serbia was 3.318.06 million US dollars in the year 2021. The Azerbaijan-Serbia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation has been functioning since June 7, 2011.
An agreement between the Governments on trade and economic cooperation was signed in Baku, on May 13, 2010. As in other areas, bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres is developing successfully. In June 2010, the Azerbaijan Cultural Center was established in Belgrade.
