Seoul, September 10, 2024 (TDI): For responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the military, a global summit in South Korea Tuesday unveiled a comprehensive “ blue print for action” that provides practical guide lines for nations to follow.
The non-binding documents, the blue print of action, announced at the Responsible AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) summit in Seoul aims to promote the safe and secure use of AI in military operations, various media organizations reported.
Representatives from 96 nations including the US and China participated in the event, however, it is not yet clear as how many of them are endorsing the documents.
the Korean government representatives speaking at a roundtable termed this year’s “blueprint” as more action-oriented. The case of Ukraine and the use of AI-enabled drones was also discussed in the summit.

Among the details added in the document was the need to prevent AI from being used to proliferate weapons of mass destruction (WMD) by actors including terrorist groups, and the importance of maintaining human control and involvement in nuclear weapons employment.
South Korean officials said the document covers much of the same ground as principles laid out elsewhere, such as the US government’s declaration on responsible use of AI in the military launched last year.
The Seoul summit, co-hosted by the Netherlands, Singapore, Kenya and the United Kingdom , also aims to ensure ongoing multi-stakeholder discussions and no single nation or entity should dominate it.
The Responsible AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) summit in Seoul, the second of its kind, follows one held in Amsterdam last year.
