Male, 9 October 2021 (TDI): The Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Esala Ruwan Weerakoon has arrived in the Maldives on an introductory visit.
Secretary-General took charge as the 14th Secretary-General of the SAARC in March 2020. During his visit, the Secretary-General will meet former Maldivian President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, and Maldivian President of the Civil Service Commission, Mohamed Nasih. He will also meet the current President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Foreign Secretary, Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, and the former SAARC Secretary-General, Ahmed Salim.
The Secretary-General will leave the Maldives on 13th October 2021. The spouse of Secretary-General, Krishanti Weerakoon, and Director of Social Affairs Division at SAARC Secretariat, Ismail Mamdhooh are accompanying the Secretary-General on the visit.
