Secretary Blinken’s statement on World Humanitarian Day

-

Washington, 20 August 2021 (TDI): On World Humanitarian Day, 19 August 2021, the Secretary of the United States of America, Antony J. Blinken recognized and honored all humanitarian aid workers who have given so much, often their lives too, in order to protect and assist the most vulnerable factions of the world. He appreciated the courage these workers show, while ensuring the welfare of others.

While stressing on the significance of humanitarian aid workers, he applauded the role they have played to cater to the amplified humanitarian crisis, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They play an essential role in countering the effects of hunger, gender-based violence, mental health, and other issues, that mainly affect the displaced and marginalized groups.

He emphasized the US role in humanitarian works, by reaffirming its status as “the single largest humanitarian donor”. He reiterated that not only the US government is focused on providing humanitarian aid, but its civil society and non-governmental organizations are equally determined to provide humanitarian aid.
