SCO Women’s Forum Highlights Leadership, Equality and Inclusive Development

Bishkek (TDI): The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Women’s Forum, held under the theme “Women’s Leadership,” concluded in Bishkek after three days of discussions focused on strengthening women’s role in governance, economic development, and global decision-making.

Organized by the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan, the forum took place from June 25 to 27, and brought together senior government officials, diplomats, representatives of public organizations, and delegates from SCO member states.

The SCO Secretariat was represented by Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yangfan, while Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Ulan Mamatkhanov also attended the event.

Participants reviewed the progress made by SCO member states in expanding women’s participation in public administration and leadership. Discussions also covered legal, political, and institutional initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and creating greater opportunities for women’s social and professional development.

Speakers agreed that equal opportunities for women are essential to achieving sustainable development, political stability, and social progress. They emphasized that the full participation of women in political and socio-economic life is vital for building inclusive societies and addressing today’s global challenges.

Addressing the forum, Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yangfan stressed that lasting peace and security are fundamental to protecting women from violence and ensuring their rights. She also underscored the importance of increasing women’s participation in economic globalization, technological innovation, and industrial transformation.

Piao further called for broader and more equitable representation of women in global governance and reaffirmed the SCO Secretariat’s commitment to supporting the Women’s Forum as a platform for cooperation, dialogue, and the advancement of women’s leadership across the region.
