Pakistan to Chair SCO Business Council in 2027

Bishkek (TDI): Pakistan will assume the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Business Council in 2027, with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) representing the country in the leadership role.

The announcement was made during the SCO Business Council Board Meeting held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, who currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the SCO Business Council, represented Pakistan along with a high-level delegation comprising leading businessmen and industrialists.

Addressing the meeting, Atif Ikram Sheikh reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting regional economic cooperation, trade facilitation, investment, and stronger business-to-business connectivity among SCO member states. He highlighted Pakistan’s strategic geographical location, expanding investment opportunities, and the country’s resolve to strengthen economic partnerships within the SCO framework.

The meeting brought together representatives of chambers of commerce, national business communities, and private sector leaders from SCO member countries to discuss measures for enhancing regional economic integration, expanding commercial cooperation, and supporting sustainable development across the region.

During his address, the FPCCI president stressed the importance of improving regional connectivity, facilitating cross-border trade, promoting joint ventures, and increasing collaboration in key sectors including industry, agriculture, energy, information technology, logistics, and infrastructure development.

He described Pakistan’s upcoming chairmanship as a significant milestone, saying it reflects the confidence of SCO member states in Pakistan’s constructive role within the organization. He noted that the leadership position would provide Pakistan’s business community with an important opportunity to help shape the future agenda of the SCO Business Council.

FPCCI Vice President Tariq Khan Jadoon welcomed the decision, calling it a great honour for both Pakistan and the FPCCI. He said Pakistan looks forward to working closely with all SCO member states to strengthen economic cooperation, facilitate trade and investment, and lead initiatives that promote inclusive growth, innovation, and regional prosperity across the SCO region.
