Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting has been hailed as a major diplomatic achievement, enhancing the country’s international standing and strengthening ties with global powers like China and Russia, according to foreign policy analysts.
Former ambassador Waheed Ahmad, while addressing the media, emphasized that hosting the SCO gathering marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s foreign policy.
He noted that the event, held in Islamabad, comes after a long hiatus in hosting such high-profile international meetings.
“This is a valuable opportunity for Pakistan to fortify its relations with key nations in the region,” Ahmad stated, underscoring the potential for deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation.
Ahmad also highlighted the significance of the Chinese delegation, led by Premier Li Qiang, which reflected Beijing’s growing interest in fostering strong bilateral ties with Islamabad.
He pointed out that the SCO meeting provides a platform for Pakistan and China to explore new avenues of collaboration and jointly address regional challenges.

The SCO, which includes regional powers like China, Russia, and Iran, represents nearly one-third of the world’s population.
