Riyadh, 1 November 2022 (TDI): The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Envoy for Climate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Adel Aljubeir met with the Ambassador of Djibouti to KSA, Dya Bamakhrama.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Riyadh. Both sides, during the meeting, reviewed the bilateral relations of countries as well as strategies that could be adopted to further strengthen the relationship.

Along these lines, they discussed the policies that could be utilized to enhance international cooperation and development between both states.

It is pertinent to note that the Ambassador of Djibouti is also the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The duo deliberated the regional as well as international issues of common interest. In this vein, Adel Aljuberi reaffirmed that KSA will maintain close communication with Djibouti.

This will be for the implementation of initiatives that will benefit not only Djibouti but the regions and people surrounding it.

In return, the Djibouti Ambassador appreciated the step by stating that this reflects the importance attached to the region by Saudi Arabia.

Diplomatic Relations between Saudi Arabia and Djibouti

Djibouti has close and cordial diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia. The Ambassador has described the relations between both countries as ‘tight’ and ‘formidable.’

In recent years, both partners have signed various agreements aimed at enhancing military as well as strategic cooperation.

Furthermore, Djibouti is located at a strategic point; the Bab al Mandab strait. The Bab al Mandab strait links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

Ergo, in light of this, Riyadh’s closer ties with Djibouti coincide with its goal to take a more assertive approach to regional security.
