Islamabad, 7 September 2024 (TDI): Omar Ayub’s resignation as general secretary of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been accepted by Imran Khan, the founder of the party.
Imran Khan has quickly picked well-known attorney and PTI leader Salman Akram Raja to be the party’s new secretary general.
As the head of the opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub has submitted his resignation from his position within the party. In the political environment of PTI, his ongoing presence in parliament guarantees his continued influence.
Ayub had declared on June 27 on X, saying, “I am most appreciative of Prime Minister Imran Khan sahib for accepting my resignation as PTI Secretary General so that I can concentrate on my position as Leader of the Opposition in the Pakistani National Assembly.
In a meeting at Adyala Jail, Imran Khan received the news of Ayub’s resignation from Senator Shibli Faraz, the head of the opposition in the Senate.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Imran Khan received the letter of resignation, which was dated June 22.
