Islamabad, Oct 15 (TDI): Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin has arrived here for participation in the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif warmly received the distinguished guest at Nur Khan Airbase.
It is for the first time that a Russian Prime Minister is visiting Pakistan. His visit signifies significance of the meeting in Islamabad and also Pakistan’s importance in the region.
On the sideline of the SCO summit, Mishustin bilateral meetings with the prime minister of Pakistan and other officials are expected.

Pakistan and Russia ties has developed into cooperation in defence, military-to-military relations, and cooperation in technology.
They also agreed on enhancing bilateral trade. The two countries share views, on regional interconnectivity, and interest on several regional issues.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Minister for Industry and Trade Syed Mohammad Atabek also arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday. He was warmly received by Additional Secretary for Afghanistan and West Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Naseem Warriach, at Nur Khan air base.

Children dressed in traditional attire presented bouquets to the foreign dignitaries as they arrived here.
A red carpet was rolled out to welcome the guests, underscoring the importance of the event and the cordial relations between the two nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the two-day meeting of SCO CHG, the second highest forum within the SCO, as Pakistan holds the rotating chair for 2023-24.
