First Russia–Africa Summit
Russia hosted the first Russia–Africa Economic Forum in Sochi on October 2019. Several African Heads of state and government attended the summit.
Also, Representatives of international business and government agencies, and African integration associations attended the Forum.
Therefore, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El-Sisi co-chaired the Forum.
The event’s motto was called “For Peace, Security, and Development”. Priority areas of economic cooperation were outlined especially whereby concrete results can be achieved in the years to come.
Above all, a final declaration was adopted by the participants at the Summit. The document outlined a set of goals and objectives for the further development of Russian-African cooperation.
Specifically in politics, security, the economy, science, technology, culture, and humanitarian fields.
The Forum was a “strategically important step towards creating favourable conditions for the development of trade and economic relations between Russia and Africa”.
Additionally, the Forum helped diversify the forms and areas of Russian-African cooperation.
The Russia–Africa panel discussion became a permanent fixture at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. At the same time, the Roscongress Foundation will continue working on the African track until the next Forum.
Most importantly, Russia attached specific importance to the growth of friendly relations with the African continent.
Noteworthy, the Russian Foreign Ministry hosted a reception on the occasion of celebrating Africa Day together with the Russian Foreign Minister and African Ambassadors.
