Colombo, 3 January 2023 (TDI): The Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Levan Dzhagaryan has revealed that Russia is proposing to build a mini nuclear power station in Sri Lanka.
He was also asked about the plans for Russia to build this particular mini-power nuclear station, ranging from the cost involved to the reasons why Sri Lanka should have the power and many others.
Levan Dzhagaryan in response to the cost to be involved said they are currently discussing the possibilities of the project. Adding to that, he has spoken to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dinesh Chandra Rupasinghe Gunawardena, and others about it.

Also, he said a high-level Russian delegation from Rosatom; Russia’s State Nuclear Energy Corporation situated in Moscow, will be visiting the country to consider certain issues.
Along these lines, he also assured that the delegation will include highly specialized nuclear experts who will examine the project and its possibilities.
Likewise, there have been three video conferences on various topics such as ammonia and nuclear energy cyclotron. All these and many other materials and equipment needed for the commencement of the projects have been discussed.
In line with this, the Ambassador added that Russia has ever done the same in Iran, and working closely as an Ambassador. He is vested in these issues even though he is not an expert in energy and nuclear matters.
Moreover, he stated that it is the country’s proposal for two mini-stations to be built and Sri Lanka stands the chance of receiving one and the cost will be negotiated. He also assured that Russian energy is green energy which seeks to fight for climate justice.
