MOSCOW, (TDI): Russia has successfully tested a new nuclear-powered submarine, Arkhangelsk, which is part of the 885 Yasen-M project.
Russia continues to strengthen its strategic security capabilities with the successful test of its new nuclear submarine, Arkhangelsk, part of the 885 Yasen-M project.
According to a report by Sputnik, the multipurpose submarine has completed its tests and is now being prepared for delivery to the Russian Navy, as confirmed by Mikhail Budnichenko, CEO of Sevmash, the shipbuilding company behind the project.
Data from The Military Balance published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies reveals that the United States has the largest fleet of nuclear-powered submarines worldwide, with 66 vessels.

In comparison, Russia operates around 30 nuclear-powered submarines, while China has 12 as of early 2024.
Nuclear-powered submarines are fueled by nuclear reactors rather than traditional diesel-electric propulsion. While not all nuclear-powered submarines are nuclear-armed, many are designed for this purpose.

According to Statista, only six countries currently operate nuclear submarines: the United States (66), Russia (31), China (12), the United Kingdom (10), France (9), and India (2).
