New Delhi, 30 March 2023 (TDI): Secretary of the Security Council Russia, Nikolai Patrushev, participated in the 18th Conference of the Secretaries of Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in India.

The conference of the SCO was held to review the SCO region’s security, stability, and ways to improve cooperation in cybersecurity, biomedical security, and anti-drug measures.

During his opening remarks, Nikolai Patrushev emphasized the necessity of working together to combat transnational organized crime, terrorism, and the rise of neo-Nazism.

He also reaffirmed Russia’s adherence to the SCO’s values of equal and indivisible security, international law respect, and universal human values.

Patrushev underlined the necessity of avoiding meddling in the internal affairs of sovereign states. He also stressed the need to oppose unilateral sanctions and restrictive measures policies.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was founded in 2001. It consisted of eight member states: China, Pakistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The organization aims to advance regional security, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.

The SCO has made notable strides toward fostering regional security and stability in recent years. The member countries have collaborated to combat terrorism, drug trafficking, and other international crimes.

The organization has also fostered economic cooperation through endeavors such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which aims to strengthen connectivity and infrastructure in the region.

SCO Member Countries reiterated the organization’s principles and the significance of continuous collaboration to preserve regional security and stability.

Meeting of Narendra Modi and Nikolai Patrushev

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss bilateral ties and geopolitical issues of shared concern.

During the conversation, Modi and Patrushev discussed ways to deepen the Russia-Indian strategic alliance. They addressed the accomplishments made in defense, energy, and space cooperation and potential areas for future collaboration.

Patrushev also discussed with the Prime Minister the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) outcomes. They noted the significance of Russia and India’s collaboration within the SCO.

Patrushev and Modi also underlined the necessity for sustained efforts to strengthen regional security and stability. They revealed the need for continued communication to address mutual subjects.

Both leaders also stressed the necessity for increased security cooperation between Russia and India.

They spoke about international matters of mutual interest, such as the Afghanistan situation and the requirement for a comprehensive approach to addressing the region’s challenges.

Modi and Patrushev reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening India-Russia’s strategic affinity and shared economic development vision.
