Romanian Language Courses Launched at NUML Islamabad

Islamabad (TDI): In a notable step toward strengthening cultural and educational ties, the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad, has introduced Romanian language courses for the first time in Pakistan.

This development marks a significant milestone in the academic engagement between Romania and Pakistan, with the aim of enhancing cross-cultural understanding and cooperation.

The Romanian language program will be housed within NUML’s Faculty of Languages, which currently offers instruction in over two dozen international languages. With this addition, NUML expands its linguistic portfolio and responds to growing interest in Eastern European languages among Pakistani students and scholars.

The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy in Islamabad and forms part of a broader diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

The program is expected to cater to students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. Courses will be offered in multiple formats, including short-term certifications and long-term diplomas, with instruction designed according to global standards, such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Alongside language instruction, the program aims to introduce participants to Romanian history, literature, and cultural traditions, thereby supporting a holistic understanding of the country and its people.

The launch of Romanian language instruction follows recent developments in Romania-Pakistan relations, including joint initiatives in higher education, research, and innovation.

Earlier this year, the Pakistan Romania Business Council signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Minhaj University Lahore to promote academic and entrepreneurial collaboration, reflecting a growing interest in building institutional linkages.

NUML, established in 1970, has emerged as a leading public sector institution in the field of language education and international studies. The university maintains academic partnerships with numerous foreign institutions, including cultural and linguistic centers from China, Turkey, Korea, and now Romania.
