Doha, 6 July 2022 (TDI): Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar receives the Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam in Doha.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam, Pham Quang Hieu, co-chaired the second political consultation between the two countries. The ministerial meeting on political consultation from the side of Qatar was chaired by Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi.

The meeting between the two ministers was held during the visit of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam to Doha from 4 July – 5 July 2022. The two sides expressed their delight in the bilateral partnership between the two countries. Moreover, progress in various fields, particularly diplomacy, energy, and the economy was appreciated.

The two sides acknowledged that there are many areas of cooperation between the two countries that should be built upon. Bilateral cooperation in several untouched areas could step up their partnership in the future.

Foreign Minister of Qatar, Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani appreciated the longstanding Qatar-Vietnam friendship. The Minister said, “We treasure the friendship and partnership with Vietnam.”

Al-Thani further expressed his wish to visit Vietnam in the near future to enhance bilateral economic ties more effectively.

Stronger economic cooperation

The First Vice-Chairman of Qatar’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Bin Ahmed Twar Al Kuwari, also attended the meeting. He welcomed Vietnam’s ambassador to Qatar, Tran Duc Hung at Qatar Chamber’s Doha headquarters.

Al Kuwari talked about the possible investment opportunities between the two sides.

Further, he explored the potential of a Joint Qatar-Vietnam Business Council. He pointed out that “This opportunity is favorable for the private sector in both countries to enhance trade volume”.

“Qatar Chamber is keen to explore investment opportunities and to establish joint meetings” he added.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam praised the Qatar-Vietnam relations. The Minister said that many areas still need to be explored to enhance economic cooperation.

In addition, he highlighted communications, technology, and infrastructure as some of the areas of cooperation and investment.

Hieu encouraged Qatari businessmen, businesses, and investors to learn about investment opportunities in Vietnam. Discussing the possibilities of partnership with their Vietnamese counterpart can benefit the economies of both countries, he added.

Both sides agreed to co-organize the third Vietnam-Qatar Intergovernmental Committee to boost collaboration and increase trade.

Finally, both sides discussed ways to improve the bilateral partnership and better coordinate at the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. Views on several regional and global issues were also exchanged.
