Addis Ababa, 20 February 2023 (TDI): State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, recently met with Palestine Premier, Mohammed Shtayyeh.

Both countries participated in the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit in Addis Ababa.

The two leaders discussed the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian issue and the need for a peaceful resolution. They also reviewed the Palestinian economic situation.

The Prime Minister emphasized the challenges the Palestinian economy faces due to the continued Israeli occupation.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for Qatar’s support for the Palestinian cause, including financial and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people. He also appreciated Qatar for its efforts to promote Palestinian unity and reconciliation.

During the meeting, the Palestine Premier hoped to resolve the current issues among the Gulf States peacefully. Both countries also covered the most recent developments in the Gulf area.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s dedication to defending the Palestinian people and their legal rights, including the right to found an independent nation with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Palestinian unification and reconciliation initiatives. The gathering between the Palestinian Prime Minister and Qatar’s State Minister is part of continuous efforts to deepen bilateral ties.

Sultan Al-Muraikhi recently pledged Qatar’s continuous support for Palestine at the Arab League session. He restated Qatar’s support for an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital as part of a just and lasting Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Sultan criticized Israel’s continuous aggression against Palestine, particularly the latest on Jerusalem, and recently, Israeli recognized nine settlement outposts in the West Bank.

He stressed the necessity for swift international action to hold Israel accountable and preserve Palestinian rights. The State Minister also lauded the Palestinian people’s fortitude and steadfastness in adversity.

He stated that Qatar supports Palestine’s battle for justice and freedom. He also pledged Qatar’s support for Palestinian humanitarian and rehabilitation efforts.

Qatar’s unwavering support for Palestine shows its commitment to justice and peace in the Middle East. In the Arab League session, the State Minister highlighted Qatar’s role as a regional power and ardent supporter of the Palestinian cause.
