They are furnished with essential utilities like power, running water, and plumbing. They will provide rapid and economical housing solutions for victims in need.

Great Türkiye Earthquake

On February 6, 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck southeast Türkiye and northern Syria. The earthquake’s epicenter was close to the Türkish city of Gaziantep and felt all the way in Cyprus.

It was one of the most deadly earthquakes ever recorded, causing significant destruction and loss of life. More than 33,000 people died as a result of the earthquake. Thousands of people are still stuck in collapsing structures.

The earthquake severely damaged the country’s roads, bridges, and other forms of infrastructure in Türkiye and Syria. It is difficult for residents to get critical services and emergency personnel to reach the affected communities.

Transportation and communication infrastructure was severely disrupted in both countries. Damaged or disrupted businesses and industries produced significant economic losses.

As a result, there are employment losses and a decrease in economic activity. The effects of earthquakes are being made worse by the cold weather.

Home and building damage or destruction during an earthquake leaves residents without adequate refuge.

Cold weather creates significantly riskier circumstances because cold temperatures hasten the development of hypothermia and other cold-related disorders.

Due to the chilly weather and earthquakes, it is challenging to carry out rescue and relief operations efficiently. The accessibility of necessities like food, water, and medicines is also becoming more complicated due to the cold.

Roads and bridges became impassable due to ice and snow. Evacuation and relief supplies are difficult for affected areas in Türkiye and Syria.
