Qatar and Mexico strengthen bilateral ties

Mexico City, 27 July 2022 (TDI): The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, met the President of the Senate of the United Mexican States, Olga Sanchez Corder, on Tuesday.

The meeting between the two dignitaries took place under the framework of the current visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar to Mexico.

During the meeting, the two countries discussed ways to support and enhance mutual relations, especially in the fields of economics. Further, the two dignitaries also reviewed bilateral ties in multicultural fields such as climate change.

Moreover, the Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar and the President of the Senate of Mexico also discussed the latest regional and international developments and exchanged views on several issues of common interest.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar also met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, during his visit.


In addition to this, Al-Thani expressed Qatar’s welcome of Mexican fans to attend the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, on the behalf of the Mexican President, also received an invitation to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Qatar-Mexico diplomatic relations

On 30 June 1975, bilateral relations between Qatar and Mexico were officially established. Qatar’s Embassy in Mexico City opened in 2014. However, Mexico’s Embassy in Doha was established in 2015.

Since the establishment of Embassies, bilateral relations between the two countries witnessed great development. Moreover, both countries have signed several memoranda of understanding in various fields. These include cultural and artistic agreements, community development, education, science, and technology.
