Lahore (TDI): Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, welcomed Stetson Sanders on his arrival in Lahore and congratulated him on assuming the charge of United States Consul General in Lahore.
Both dignitaries had a detailed meeting in which they discussed matters of mutual interest including trade relations, energy cooperation, technology, agriculture and educational exchanges.
CM Maryam appreciated US President Donald Trump’s efforts to mediate between Pakistan and India in their recent confrontation in May.
Stetson Sanders has recently assumed charge and he is the 35th American diplomat to serve in this position. Having worked previously in the US Embassy in Islamabad, Sanders is not new to Pakistan.
He has also served in Washington coordinating strategic and policy issues not just for Pakistan but for some countries of Central Asia as well.
The foreign service background of Sanders includes postings on different continents, with both policy and field work.
He has worked as the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Director in Juba, South Sudan, where he oversaw principal law enforcement and stabilization programs.
He has also served as the Senior Civilian Representative at the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Ghazni, Afghanistan, where he took part in activities that focused on regional stability and reconstruction.
His other appointments have been in Spain, India, and Tajikistan, and this diversity provides him with a global and multicultural outlook.
