The bilateral relations between both countries date back to the birth of Pakistan. Over time, both states developed a multifaceted relationship.
The cooperation between both is significantly based on shared values and regional and strategic interests convergence.
Significantly, Pakistan’s shuttle diplomacy played a crucial in the US-China rapprochement of the Cold War. Pakistan undeniably put valuable efforts into the eventual Soviet Withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Following the United States’ efforts to fight against terrorism, Pakistan significantly engaged in restoring peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan’s Armed forces operated against Al-Qaida and worked hand-in-hand with NATO.
Historically, the United States is one of the major development partners in Pakistan. The US is one of the major investors in the infrastructure, energy, and education sector of Pakistan.
United States assistance in Pakistan is focused on economic growth, bilateral trade, civil society, people-to-people exchange, scholarship programs, and prevention of infectious diseases e.g. Covid-19 and Polio.
