Lugano, 4 July 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Switzerland, Ignazio Cassis, welcomed the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, to Switzerland.

The prime minister of Ukraine arrived in Switzerland to attend and host the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2022). The conference is to be held July 4–7, 2022.

Both leaders discussed how this conference will help Ukraine recover during the meeting. European Union (EU) officials, Ukrainian ministers, human rights organizations, and international financial institutions have also arrived for this conference.

Agenda of the Conference:

Ukraine’s Recovery and Development Plan (within President Zelenskyy’s United 24 initiative) and international partners’ contributions are the principles, methods, and priorities of recovery.

The main areas of focus will be on environmental, infrastructure, and economic and social recovery from the damages caused due to war. Moreover, there will be reforms as a result of the current circumstances.

In light of this, Ukraine and Switzerland made a call to discuss the recovery of Ukraine. They also urged the strengthening of partnerships and the victory of democracy.

They called on leaders and countries to demonstrate solidarity through lasting commitment and provide funds for the implementation of the recovery and development plan. This plan will compensate for the losses and damage, as well as provide for reconstruction.

Additionally, this would prevent economic and social crises in the country on a large scale.

Both countries have urged the need for support for the recovery of a particular region or any Ukrainian city. This is done through partnering with corporations and countries by applying a decentralized approach.

Both states expect that this conference will be a political platform enabling partnerships for development on an international level.

Furthermore, the motto of the conference is “Reforms, Resilience, and Recovery”. It will bring Ukraine’s friends together to help and stand with the country in this crucial time.

The leaders of both states discussed that once the reforms are implemented, they will result in the transformation of Ukraine and a modernized economy.

In conclusion, URC is an addition to the initiatives launched in support of the Ukrainian people.
