Islamabad, 24 October 2022 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, called the President of Kenya, William Ruto, on Monday, regarding the killing of a senior Pakistani journalist, Arshad Sharif, in Kenya.
Arshad was shot dead by the Kenyan police on Sunday night in a “mistaken identity case” as claimed by authorities while traveling to Nairobi from Magadi town.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, emphasized an impartial and transparent investigation into the incident.
Shehbaz Sharif also requested William Ruto to complete the regulatory procedures for returning Arshad Sharif’s dead body to Pakistan.
The Kenyan President assured that demands of justice will be fulfilled in the case. He also said that an investigative report will also be released soon in this regard.
He expressed sorrow over the incident and assured that justice would be served in the matter. Moreover, William Ruto also assured Shehbaz Sharif that the process of the dead body’s return to Pakistan will be completed at the earliest.
Apart from this, the Government of Pakistan is actively engaged with the Kenyan authorities at multiple levels for the speedy repatriation of the mortal remains of Arshad Sharif.
The Pakistan High Commission in Nairobi and the Foreign Ministry are in constant contact to facilitate and expedite the process.
The Acting Foreign Secretary, Raza Bashir Tarar, also met the Kenyan High Commissioner in Islamabad to discuss the matter.

The senior Pakistani journalist, Arshad Sharif, had left Pakistan and moved to Dubai amidst death threats. Sharif was a writer, journalist, and television news anchor.
He received the Pride of Performance award from the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, on March 23, 2019. Moreover, Sharif worked on different news channels.
He served as the News Director at AAJ News. He was killed in Kenya by the Kenyan Police on October 23, 2022, in a mistaken identity case.
