Samarkand, 16 September 2022 (TDI): The President of China. Xi Jinping met with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon on Thursday. The meeting was held on the margins of the SCO Heads of State Council Summit 2022.

It took place at Forumlar Majmuasi Complex in Samarkand.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted 30 years of bilateral relations between both countries. President Xi pointed out that China-Tajikistan relations have achieved leapfrog growth since its establishment.

Additionally, he affirmed to support Tajikistan in safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, and security. Moreover, he highlighted that China and Tajikistan need to continue to bring about more concrete results in China-Tajikistan ties.

Trade and Investment Relations

During the meeting, President Xi Jinping underscored China’s readiness to enhance practical cooperation with Tajikistan. He highlighted cooperating to expand the import of quality Tajik agricultural products and elevate the scale and level of bilateral trade.

Additionally, the two sides discussed opportunities to advance cooperation in areas like infrastructure, water management, and transportation.

They also discussed cooperating in green technology, digital economy, and artificial intelligence. President Xi Jinping also affirmed to assist Tajikistan in promoting cross-border transportation capability.

The Chinese President confirmed that China is ready to work with Tajikistan and other central Asian countries to enhance the China+Central Asia (C+C5) Meeting mechanism.

Moreover, he discussed cooperation to deepen counterterrorism cooperation and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in this region. The President of Tajikistan affirmed cooperating with the Chinese government for regional development.

Regional Dynamics

President Rahmon reaffirmed that Tajikistan unswervingly abides by the one-China principle. He said that Tajikistan firmly maintains that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.

He further added that Tajikistan will continue to support China’s stance on issues concerning China’s core interests. Tajikistan’s President also affirmed that Tajikistan is ready to develop closer high-level interactions with China.

He highlighted learning from China’s development experience, promoting practical cooperation in areas like trade, agriculture, transportation, production capacity, and green economy.

President Rahmon pointed out that this will help in raising Tajikistan-China relations to a new level. Additionally, he said that Tajikistan is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China in the United Nations, SCO, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

According to the President of Tajikistan, it will help in deepening security cooperation and safeguarding regional security and stability.

In his concluding remarks, President Rahmon wished the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China a full success.
