President Xi congratulates President-elect Prabowo Subianto


Beijing, 22 March 2024 (TDI): Chinese President, Xi Jinping, on Wednesday extended congratulatory message to Prabowo Subianto on his election as the President of Indonesia. 

According to the statement, the Chinese President highlighted that China and Indonesia are traditional friendly neighbors, and that with joint efforts of the two sides, the development of bilateral relations has embarked on the fast track. 

Mainly because of increasingly consolidated political mutual trust, deepening synergy of development strategies, and fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation. 

Furthermore, President Xi stressed that both China and Indonesia have opened a new chapter in building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future. 

 Moreover, Xi emphasized that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Indonesia relations and looks forward to working with President-elect Prabowo Subianto to secure greater achievements in building a community with a shared future. 

In addition, Xi said to set an example of solidarity and coordination for common development among major developing countries, so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples and inject strong impetus into regional and global prosperity and stability. 

Prabowo Subianto, who is currently the defense minister of Indonesia, was announced as the winner of the presidential elections by the Indonesian General Election Commission on March 20. Subianto will succeed President Joko Widodo as the new President of Indonesia. 

President-elect Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, candidate for vice President, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, secured approximately 60% of the votes in the elections contested on February 14th.

During his address to the people the President-elect said that although we are grateful, we must not be arrogant, we must not be euphoric, we must remain humble. This victory must be a victory for all Indonesian people. 

Furthermore, he said he will lead along with Gibran, eldest son of former President Joko Widodo, to nurture, protect, and defend all the people of Indonesia without any discrimination.
