Beijing (TDI): China’s President Xi Jinping and Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus of the Interim Government of Bangladesh met in Great Hall, Beijing as both countries mark fifty years of diplomatic ties in 2025.
China reiterated its policy of good neighborliness and friendship towards Bangladesh, and expressed readiness to work with the neighboring country to increase cooperation and ensure more benefits to the people of both countries.
The four-day Beijing visit was Muhammad Yunus’s first bilateral state visit since he became the head of the country’s Interim Government in August last year, after widespread protests propelled Hasina Wajid out of office.

China is Bangladesh’s largest trading partner and a major investor. Bangladesh has a strategic importance for China in view of its Belt and Road Initiative where Bangladesh’s location becomes an attractive spot in Chinese long-spanning infrastructural and connectivity lanes.
Bangladesh’s Interim Government is no more under India’s influence like its predecessor. This makes the country more open to cooperation with China.
