Islamabad, 29 August 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador-designate of Ethiopia presented his credentials to the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi during the Presentation of Credentials Ceremony.
Ambassador of Ethiopia, Jemal Beker Abdula, made the call on the President. During his discussion with the Ethiopian Ambassador, the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi appreciated the decision of Ethiopian leadership to open a diplomatic mission in Islamabad.
He hoped it would improve bilateral relations, enhance mutual exchanges, and open a new era of friendship and cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
During Bilateral Political Consultations, the two countries reviewed the full gamut of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
He also welcomed the increasing cooperation between the two countries in the aviation sector and the commencement of 2 weekly direct flights reconnecting Karachi with Africa through Addis Ababa Air Station.
Pakistan-Ethiopia Ties
Ethiopia’s bilateral relations with Pakistan date back to 1958. Pakistan opened its Embassy in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa in 1973.
Presently, Ethiopian Embassy in Jakarta is the one accredited to Pakistan. Both countries attach high importance to mutual relations and look forward to exploring new areas for mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in trade, economy, and agriculture.

For Pakistan, it’s a part of the “Engage Africa” vision aimed at deepening political, economic, trade, cultural, investment, and security engagement with the African Continent.
Trade
Trade between the two countries favors Pakistan. Currently, both governments are working to further enhance their trade relation.
Technical cooperation
Pakistan is also known for its technical cooperation and capacity-building support to Ethiopia. It provides short-term training scholarships to Ethiopia in different fields.
The diplomatic training that is provided by Pakistan’s Foreign Relations Academy every year can be a case in point.
Pakistan highly valued its long-standing ties with Ethiopia and stressed the importance of further increasing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
