President Putin Speaks with PM Modi over Phone

Moscow/New Delhi, 28 August 2024 (TDI): On August 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation. Putin mentioned the destructive policies of Ukraine and its Western allies. Modi said that he supports an early and peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

India’s Commitment to a Peaceful Resolution

In a detailed telephone conversation, PM Modi and President Putin discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Russia and India.

hrough a tweet at X, PM Modi said that he had reiterated India’s strong commitment to an “early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict” with President Putin.

In addition, Modi shared his insights about the recent visit to Ukraine with Putin, the Indian Foreign Ministry confirmed. He emphasized the necessity of dialogue, diplomacy, and practical engagement among all relevant stakeholders to achieve a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

Putin’s Perspective on the Ukraine Crisis

On the other hand, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement says that President Putin provided his principled assessment of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

He emphasised destructive policies pursued by the Kyiv authorities and their Western patrons. He highlighted Russia’s consistent and constructive approach to resolving the conflict.

During the call, he reiterated the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in achieving a peaceful resolution.

Ongoing Bilateral Engagement and Future Contacts

The two leaders also reviewed the progress of trade and economic agreements resulting from Prime Minister Modi’s official visit to Russia in July 2024.

They expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation between their countries, particularly within the framework of BRICS. Both leaders underscored the importance of further deepening this partnership to address global challenges and promote economic stability.

Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed his commitment to participating in the upcoming Kazan Summit in October 2024, which will be a key event during Russia’s BRICS chairmanship.

The leaders expressed their mutual determination to continue bilateral contacts at various levels.
