Islamabad, 12 March 2022 (TDI): While speaking with the visiting Sajjada Nasheen of Hazrat Abdul Qadir Shah Gillani of Baghdad, the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi stated that Muslims should embrace the teachings of saints and Sufis, who have long encouraged love, brotherhood, mutual respect, and unity among Muslims. He said that the saints had contributed significantly to societal transformation by educating and advising Muslims about Islamic ideals and spreading the Islamic message throughout the world.
Sheikh Syed Khalid Abdul Qadir Mansoor Al-Gillani, the visiting Sajjada Nasheen of Hazrat Abdul Qadir Shah Gillani of Baghdad, visited the president at Aiwan-e-Sadr with members of his delegation. Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, was there, as was Hamid Abbas Laftah, the Iraqi Ambassador to Pakistan, and other top government officials.
The President, while welcoming the team, emphasized the role of Ulema and Sufis in spreading the message of Islam across the world, particularly in Central and South Asia. During a difficult period in Islamic history, Hazrat Abdul Qadir Shah Gillani kept high moral principles throughout his life and rebuilt society in the light of the Quran and Sunnah, he said.
Furthermore, the President went on to say that today’s society has numerous difficulties, including moral decay, extremism, and fake news, and that religious leaders must confront these concerns in their sermons and speeches. He told the group that the government, as well as religious leaders from other schools of thought, had been working to foster religious tolerance, mutual respect, and interfaith peace in the country. He stressed the need of strengthening solidarity among Muslim countries to successfully combat the problem of Islamophobia
The President praised the Sajjada Nasheen for the humanitarian efforts. Later, in honour of the visiting group, he gave a state banquet. The Sajjada Nasheen also expressed gratitude to the President for his warm welcome and hospitality and extended an invitation to the President to pay him a visit.
