In Beijing, a grand morning parade set the tone for the day. China did not limit itself to a humble celebration this year. Instead a range of new and high-tech Chinese weaponry was at display in the Tiananmen Square.

Not just that, leaders from 26 countries joined Xi in witnessing the parade. China put up a strong display of unity with Russia and North Korea as the leaders of both walked alongside President Xi during the day’s official ceremony.

“Humanity is again faced with a choice of peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, and win-win outcomes or zero-sum games,” Xi said.

“The Chinese people will stand firmly on the right side of history and on the side of human progress, adhere to the path of peaceful development, and join hands with the rest of the world to build a community with a shared future for humanity,” he added.
