PNS Tughril Visits Port of Manila

Manila, 27 November 2021 (TDI): Pakistan’s largest and most modern frigate PNS Tughril ( F-261) visited the Port of Manila. The visit was two days long and lasted from 22 to 24 November.

Pakistan Navy Ship Tughril reached Pier 15 of the Manila South Harbour on Monday afternoon. A Philippine Navy delegation welcomed the frigate. A dignified welcome ceremony was hosted by Capt. Emilio Orio Jr., the Deputy Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Plans of Philippines. Pakistan’s ambassador to the Philippines and Defence Attaché of Pakistan also graced the event with their presence.

Philippine Navy spokesperson, Commander Benjo Negranza reflecting on the visit said, “This goodwill visit underscores the sustainment of naval diplomacy and maritime cooperation toward peace and stability. It further speaks well for the role that both navies play in the development and enhancement of the relationship between the two countries”.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Philippines and Pakistan’s Defence attaché welcomed PNS Tughril along with Philippines Navy officials at the Port of Manila.

On a port visit, Commanding Officer of the Ship Captain Shahid Ahmad received Flag Officer in Command of Philippines Navy Vice Admiral Adelaide S Bordado, Executive Vice President National Defense College, Philippine, Captain (Philippine Navy Reserves) Aldarin C Cuna, Ambassador of Pakistan in Philippines Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad Kazi, and Head of Chancery Sadia Awan.

PNS Tughril arrived at the Port of Manila as part of a goodwill visit and flag showing mission.  The Ship was commissioned in the Navy on 8 November 2020. The ship was ordered by the Pakistan Navy from the China State Building Corporation Limited. It is one of the first four Type 054A frigates that were ordered.

Maritime Security Affairs Discussed

Officials and dignitaries of Pakistan and the Philippines discussed matters of mutual interest, naval collaborations, and prevalent maritime security goals. Officials of the Philippines were given a brief about Pakistan Navy’s activities in the Indian Ocean Region and its training capabilities.

On behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, Captain Ahmed delivered best wishes to the Filipino people and also to the Philippines Navy.

The goodwill visit was concluded with a send-off ceremony by the Philippines with customary passing exercises.

The occasion provided a chance to both the Filipino and Pakistani sides to further better their security and diplomatic relations.
