PM Shehbaz Urges Peace in Talks with Saudi, Qatari Envoys

Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met separately with the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia and Qatar on Tuesday to discuss the unfolding crisis in the Middle East, following the Iranian missile strike on a US military base in Qatar.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he had a “productive discussion” with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al Malkiy, focusing on regional tensions and the need for diplomatic solutions.

“Pakistan will continue working closely with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support peace in the region through dialogue and diplomacy,” he wrote.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif extended warm wishes for the health and well-being of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong and enduring solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia.

In a separate meeting with Qatari Ambassador Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater, the Prime Minister expressed concern over the missile attacks that struck near the US base in Qatar on Monday night.

He conveyed Pakistan’s support for the Qatari leadership and its people during this tense time.

“We pray for the safety and security of our Qatari brothers and sisters, and for peace in the entire region,” the premier said during the meeting.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan has always stood for dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path to lasting peace in the Middle East. He added that all parties must work to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.

According to officials, Shehbaz Sharif also spoke with both envoys by phone late Monday night, shortly after reports emerged of the missile strike.

He voiced serious concern about the situation and called on both countries to stick to diplomacy and avoid further escalation.

The Qatari ambassador appreciated the Prime Minister’s prompt call and thanked him for standing with Qatar during such a critical moment.

The Saudi ambassador shared a similar view and said it was important for both nations to keep working together to help bring stability back to the region.
