PM to Highlight Kashmir, Palestine at UNGA

Islamabad, September 23, 2024 (TDI): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will present Pakistan’s perspective on key regional and international issues in his address to the UN General Assembly on Friday, according to state-run broadcaster, Radio Pakistan.

More than one hundred and thirty heads of state and government will attend the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly’s 79th session.

According to local media reports, the prime minister is in the United Kingdom and from there he will depart for New York to attend the UNGA session.

In his address, the Prime Minister will highlight a range of international and regional issues of concern, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and Palestine issue.

India is involving in worst kind human rights violation in the in Indian held Jammu and Kashmir, an area disputed as per UN resolution.

It has clearly violated several international laws and conventions while International community and the UN has already criticized role of the Indian government in this connection.

Similarly, Israel’s role in the Middle East especially in its conflict with Hamas is a hot issue and the world is witnessing hitting civilian targets including civilian population and hospitals, war crimes under international laws.

UN and international community is already showing concerns on the situation. It is in this context that the PM will specially highlights Pakistan’s perspective.

The Prime Minister will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and support for the role of the United Nations in fostering global peace, security and prosperity.

He is also scheduled to attend several high-level meetings, including discussions on existential threats posed by sea level rise and the UN Security Council’s open “Debate on Leadership for Peace” session, Radio Pakistan reported.

His bilateral meetings with several world leaders are also scheduled. He will call on the UN Secretary General as well.
