Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong on Tuesday, with the two discussing regional developments, economic cooperation, and PM’s expected visit to China later this year.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
He also wished China success in hosting the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
Speaking on Pakistan’s close ties with China, the Prime Minister described the relationship as deep-rooted and time-tested.

He said Pakistan remains firmly committed to working closely with China, especially on CPEC-related initiatives.
Among the major areas of focus, he pointed to the ML-I railway project, changes to the Karakoram Highway route, the development of Gwadar Port, and increased collaboration in farming, manufacturing, and information technology.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also thanked China for its continued economic and financial support, noting that it had played a key role in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy.
He said this assistance was especially important as the government pursued its broader development agenda.

The two also discussed recent tensions in the region, including the Iran-Israel conflict.
Ambassador Jiang acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and its calls for a peaceful solution through dialogue.
He said China valued Pakistan’s constructive role on international forums, including the United Nations.
Ambassador Jiang also updated the prime minister on ongoing preparations for his planned visit to China in August.
