Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that Pakistan was willing to strengthen trade, economic, energy, connectivity, and security ties with Russia on Thursday, Radio Pakistan reported.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Islamabad.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz said he was looking forward to meeting Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at the upcoming SCO summit next month. He highlighted that enhancing relations with Russia is a key priority in Pakistan’s foreign policy.

The premier recalled a productive discussion with President Vladimir Putin in July and thanked him for sending a high-level delegation to explore bilateral cooperation.
The prime minister also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries for deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, IT, agriculture, science and technology, and education.

Speaking on the occasion, Overchuk stated that Russia would support Pakistan’s bid to join BRICS. He also emphasized that Pakistan-Russia relations were constructive and mutually beneficial.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk, on a two-day visit to Islamabad, reiterated Russia’s resolve to strengthen ties with Pakistan.
This visit follows earlier discussions between Prime Minister Sharif and President Putin at the SCO Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, on July 3, 2024.
